Maine Coon Adoption
Four Compelling Reasons to Consider a Maine Coon for Adoption
1. Save the live of a Maine Coon/Maine Coon mix – when someone adopts a pet from a shelter or rescue center, not only does the cat get a chance for a new life, it frees up a place for another abandoned or surrendered cat to be rescued.
2. Rescuing an older Maine Coon will ensure you know what you’re getting – size, temperament, history, personality. With Maine Coons taking up to four years to develop you don’t really know how a kitten will grow up. Many older cats will be fully domesticated and used to other animals, children, people. With a younger cat the training and socialization work still needs doing.
3. If you are specifically going after a Maine Coon for adoption its likely you will find it easier to find a part Maine Coon mix than a pedigree. Some experts believe there are reduced health risks for a cat which has been ‘cross-bred’ rather than ‘in-bred’ by a back yard breeder trying to produce and sell a purebred Maine Coon.
4. A Special Friend for Life – many people who have rescued animals say a unique bond is formed which runs deeper than other human/pet relationships. Maine Coons make loyal companions – if you become a hero to them by offering a new home, love and care you may well be rewarded even more than you’d expect from a gentle giant!
